Pair or reset the Roku remote
Roku Player lets you play thousands of movies and TV episodes on your TV. However, if there is a problem with the remote control, you will not be able to play the content. If you have a problem with your Roku remote, regardless of the type of remote, here’s how to pair or reset it.
Two types of Roku remotes
There are two types of Roku remote controls: Infrared (IR) remote controls, which require a “direct line of sight” with the Roku player, and an improved “Point Anywhere” remote control. They know you have a Roku from afar. If you don’t see the pairing button on the battery compartment, check the remote control. To pair the Roku IR remote control, connect the Roku player to the TV and the power supply. When your remote control is near the player, the pairing process will start automatically.
Connect your Roku device to the TV and the wall socket. Then switch your TV to the HDMI input on your Roku device. You can do this by pressing the input or source button on the TV or the TV remote control. Insert the batteries into the Roku remote control. Press any button on the remote control. This will automatically pair the remote with your Roku device. Since you are using infrared, make sure that you are in the field of view of your Roku device.

To pair your Roku with the updated remote control, insert new batteries into the remote control. Next, turn on your Roku and place the remote near your device. This process begins to mate. Reset an advanced Roku remote
Disconnect the Roku player to reset the advanced Roku controller. Then remove your batteries and reconnect the Roku player. Then put the batteries back in by seeing the Roku logo on the screen. Press the pairing button and wait for the pairing process to complete.
Unplug the Roku player from the mains. Remove the batteries from your Roku remote control. Reconnect the Roku player after 5 seconds. After seeing the Roku logo on the screen, replace the batteries in the remote control. Then press and hold the pairing button on the battery compartment. Do this for about 5 seconds or until the pairing LED on the remote starts blinking.
Wait for Rocco to complete the pairing process. It takes 30 seconds, sometimes less. When the remote control is successfully paired, a message will be displayed on the TV.
With the Point Anywhere remote control, the pairing button is located on the Roku remote control in the battery compartment. You can find out by opening the battery compartment. Follow the steps below to find the pairing button on your Roku remote. Remotely open the Roku’s battery compartment. Insert the pairing button at the bottom of the battery compartment. If it’s your Roku remote, the indicator light may be on the front of the remote or next to the pairing button on the battery compartment, depending on the model.
How to sync the IR Roku remote control without a pairing button?
To sync the Roku IR remote control without a pairing button, make sure nothing is blocking the signal to the device. Then reset the batteries or insert new batteries.
Remove obstacles. The standard Roku remote only works when pointed directly at the player. For proper synchronization, remove objects that may block the signal from the remote control to the player.
Reset the remote control batteries. Sync often does not work if the batteries are not inserted correctly in their compartment. All you have to do is pick it up and put it back in. Stream the remote to the device and see if that solves the problem. Replace the batteries. If negotiating obstacles or resetting the batteries doesn’t work, it’s time to replace the batteries.
